Walking

Unsurprisingly, the beautiful waterways, woodlands and fields of the Norfolk Broads attract thousands of walkers every year. If you want to bring your four-legged friend along for a stroll, you’ll find a fantastic variety of excellent walking locations to choose from. Dogs are allowed in most areas of the Broads however they’re not permitted in some RSPB reserves like Strumpshaw Fen Nature Reserve. In some other areas, like Whitlingham Broad, dogs need to kept on leads on certain areas.

Some of the best dog walks on the Broads are the Beccles Marsh Trail (four miles), the Bramerton Riverside Walk (one and a half to three miles) and the Bigod Way in Bungay which is a little longer at ten miles.

The Norfolk Broads National Park is a great place for anyone and everyone who enjoys walking, with over 190 miles of footpaths, nature trails and country lanes the county is a great way to explore and treat your four legged friends.

Pubs

As the region is so popular with dog walkers, it’s no surprise that many of the pubs in the area are pet friendly. Enjoy a meal or a drink at The Ferry Inn Restaurant in Horning, take your four-legged friend for an even out at The White Horse Inn in Neatishead or stop in to refuel at the Fur & Feathers pub after a day exploring the beautiful Salhouse Broad.

In most pubs dogs will need to be keep on leads and in some cases are only allowed in the bar or garden.

Boat Hire

One of the best ways to see the Norfolk Broads is by boat. Luckily for pet owners, there are a number of dog-friendly boat rentals available across the Broads, allowing you to take your pet out with you for a day on the water. As not all of the boats that ply the Broads are dog-friendly, it’s important to check with your chosen rental company before you book. You may also need to invest in a few pieces of specialist safety equipment for your animal.

When hiring a boat on the Broads, ask the rental company for ideas on places to go and the best areas to visit with your dog. They should have a good idea of any local spots that are out of bounds for dogs and places where four-legged friends can fun free.

Self-drive boats are available to rent by the hour or for the full day from Herbert Woods and don’t forget as a Broads Escapes customer your entitled to a 25% discount off day boats.
