Stalham

The pretty market town of Stalham is located within the Norfolk Broads National Park and is a popular base for those exploring the region. Mentioned in the Doomsday Book and home to a number of historic sights and a great choice of walking routes, Stalham is a great destination for a holiday on the Broads.

 

Main sights & attractions

The main attraction in Stalham is the Museum of The Broads which moved to the town in 2000. Helping to bring local history to life and give visitors a better idea of what life has been like in the region over the centuries, it’s a must see during your time in the area.

If you want to learn more about Stalham’s past, take a trip to the Old Fire Station. Now a fascinating museum, the firehouse was built in 1833 and is thought to be one of the oldest in Britain. On your visit you can see an original horse-drawn pump engine as well as several other historic fire-fighting tools. Just next to the museum is the Old Town Lockup which can be accessed by a small door in the firehouse.

 

Places to eat

There are some great pubs in Stalham where you can find hearty food and a warm welcome throughout the year. Try The Grebe or The Swan Inn in the centre of town or wander down the Yarmouth Road to The Harnser. A number of other cafes and restaurants can be found in and around the town’s high street.

 

Things to do

From Stalham you can sail down the River Ant to the Ant Broads and Marshes National Nature Reserve before continuing even deeper into the heart of the Broads.
